checking out the stairs

Yesterday we headed to a small campground/park where you can climb up on top of a small cliff of rocks.  Jim wanted to really check out the stairs that were there as he wants to make some stairs going off our back deck.

The stairs

And since we were there we decided to hike up on the top of the cliff.  From a distance and looking through the trees I thought that this was a wild turkey sitting there.  Well it looked like one from way back :)

Chippy

The smell of the pine needles on the ground was heavenly.

Then Jim started thinking about going out on the ledge...

and he did.

Peeking through

I love to hike, but I wasn't that adventuresome to go out on that ledge.  Especially since I didn't have on my hiking shoes or my walking stick.

going hiking

It's been pretty busy around here lately.  We've been hiking and have hiked some pretty tough hills.

This shot is taken up high above the Wisconsin river and the Mississippi river where they come to meet.

Waterways

Here you can see where they two rivers come together.

Miss and wisc meeting

That was on one day, then the next day we hiked the hills in Governor Dodge State Park.

I'm a bit sore from not having hiked in so long, but it feels good to be working those muscles again.

taking the dogs for a walk

Jim usually takes the dogs for a walk alone in the mornings and Lauren and I started joining them in the evenings.

Going for a walk

We can't let Jake's dogs off leash, we are worried that they'll take off and not come back.  All three know that Sadie isn't on leash and it just bugs Reba and Shelby to no end.  Sadie on the other hand just eats it up.  Funny how dogs aren't too different from kids.

Sadie in the lead

We walk down this road that runs along side of our property which we call "The Lane".  The lane is more like an access road to all the people who own land behind us.

We have many butterflies which I recently found out are called Sulphurs.  It almost looks like it's snowing.  Sadie tries to catch them.

The trees are the backside of our property.  The neighbor down the road farms the hay field there behind our property.

Back of property

The other night we took our walk and headed deep into the woods.

Getting tangled

Someone has a place at the end hidden in the woods.  There is no house just a garage and some gardens.

Windmill bottom

It's a cute little spot at the end of the lane.  We really get a work out walking back in the woods.  It's not a flat straight walk, it's up and down the whole way there and back.

Lots going on this weekend.  Jason and his family are here now, and most of the family is coming this Labor day weekend.  I hope you all have a wonderful Labor Day.

Blessings,

Judy

we took a walk awhile back

I totally forgot to post about this.  I seem to have a few more posts that I could do, but they'll have to wait for another day.

Jim and I walked the river about 1 1/2 months ago.  This beaver house looked pretty big.  I guess because it was still pretty early in the year yet for the grass to be tall.

We saw some Canada Geese on our walk.

Then Jim spied some carp where the river made a pool area.  In the next sequence of pictures you can see them..kind of...sort of...coming out of the water.  The carp were just rolling around together.  It's really a neat thing to see in person.  Pictures just don't do it justice.

Turning to leave we saw a beaver path, leading from the water to this tree.

Man, can those beavers do some work.

The beauty of nature.

i think it was five

Miles that is...I'm pretty sure it was 5 miles we hiked yesterday.  But, once we got halfway there really was no turning back.  We had to finish to get back to the trail head.

We spied a couple of things along the way.

Two birds

Jim kept his eye out for snakes and sure enough he spied one.  It was a garter snake and it slithered away before I could get a better picture.

Garter snake

Funny how snakes really don't bother or scare me.

How about you, do they scare you?

when it's too hot...head to the lake to walk

So that's what we did last night.  We walked along the lake shore path.  I think it was at least 15 degrees cooler and no mosquitoes.

On another walk I spied a wild iris growing.  This I haven't ever seen before.

Stop and take the time to see if you can see something new you have never seen before.  It always amazes me when I see something new.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

happy monday

And a happy Monday it is.  For starters the Blackhawks won last night.  Yes, only one more to go...I wasn't even born yet the last time they won the Stanley Cup.

This is a macro shot I took of my clematis growing this year.  It seems like it's been awhile since I've done any macro shots.

There is so much going on here...It's busy as usual.  We did manage to get in a hike yesterday.  The view at the peak was awesome.

The peak

We hiked on a more rugged type of trail.  You can see the "Y"...We took the trail to the left and it led us into some pretty thick woods.

Trails

You can tell by this mossy fallen tree that there doesn't get much sun light.

Mossy tree

Walking through this we sure got a work out.  We passed two groups of Boy Scouts with back packs on their backs training.

Life is still pretty busy over here.  Nothing ever seems to slow down.

But, life is good and everyday we learn more and more how lucky we are.

You all have a wonderful day!

time is passing by

Ditch flowers

Where does the time go?  I haven't posted since Wednesday and here it is Saturday already.  How can one be so busy and there is really nothing to show for it.  I guess that's just how life is.  Jim and I have been walking almost every night.  We walk over 3 miles each time.  When we first started walking way back when, just going a half hour was a killer.  Now, a half hour is a piece of cake and doesn't even feel like we've walked at all.  I'm not looking forward to walking in the warmer weather tho and some of the places we have walked lately are pretty wooded and wet.

  Big tree

I know those wonderful mosquitoes will be thick once they come out.  The river has been pretty flooded lately as you can see from the photo below.

Flooded river

We spied a new flower that we have not seen before.

New flower

Lots of flowers but also lots of water as well.

Wet area

Hope you all have been doing well and I hope you have a wonderful weekend.
