With sugaring over for us we decided to take a Sunday drive on our way to a new restaurant we wanted to try. Our snow is mostly gone, and I am anxiously waiting for the flowers to start popping out of the ground. It’s pretty brown around here right now but hey spring is here or so it says on the calendar.

I found this yummy German Apple Pancake over at The Red Feedsack. Yesterday I made it for breakfast, unfortunately I thought I only had three small apples, because of that there wasn’t much apple filling. I also didn’t put powdered sugar on it so mine was pretty ugly to look at but we did put our fresh maple syrup on it...YUM!
It’s much like the Finnish pannukakku I make and Mr seemed to like the German Apple Pancake much better than pannukakku. I liked them both, tho the German one did fill me up longer than the Finnish one does. It was a special treat to the end of our sugaring season which was a huge success in both quantity and quality.
One thing about sugaring season is that it gets us out after being stuck in the house after what sometimes seems like a long winter. There’s no snow on the ground at least where the sun shines, you’ll still find snow tucked in places where the sun doesn’t hit it to melt.
The buds are starting to appear on my lilac bushes, which got me so excited to see. I’m also getting excited to start getting my plants going for my vegetable garden...it’s that time of year.
We had another busy weekend with the kids here to help make syrup. A lot of coffee was consumed during the sugaring process...lol!
We had a huge success with not only the amount of syrup we bottled, but the quality of the syrup we bottled.
Not sure how much more boiling we’ll do as we have quite a bit of syrup bottled this season, we just never know how a season will go.
So far we have bottled 2.75 gallons of syrup and it’s all been of the golden grade, very light in color and taste...YUM!!
Instead of finishing off in the house all the time we have set up a spot to finish off outside on our back deck. Mr checking to see if we have syrup.
Here we are filtering the syrup, you can see the sugar sand down in the filter bag. We had a great hot boil today, so not sure why we got sugar sand this is definitely a first for us.
It’s been a slow start to our sugaring season this year. I meant to take my camera out to the sugar bush this evening when we gathered to get some photos, but there’s always tomorrow for that. More company coming this weekend for sugaring, so it’s going to be another busy time for us.
I know the old saying is...in like a lion and out like a lamb...when it comes to the month of March, but right now our March is pretty lamb-like. I'm excited to be getting back into blogging again, I've really missed it a lot, though I must have needed to have a break since I had been gone so long from the blog.
I have been doing a bit of quilting and finished my Lori Holt's Farm Girl Vintage Quilt. Although I didn't do the sew along, I had gone on a local quilt shop bus shop hop trip and the theme was Midwest Farm Girls featuring the Farm Girl Vintage book and that was in 2016. It only took me two years to get it done :)
One reason why I had been MIA from the blog was that at the Madison Quilt Expo last September I had purchased a Baby Lock Crown Jewel 3 long arm machine and in the first part of November I had gone to a getaway down in St Louis Missouri to learn my machine, it was a 4 day training on my machine and frame. It was awesome!
My mom had made quilts for all her grandchildren when they had their first baby and when she passed she had left 6 baby quilts not done. So, I took all the fabrics and her pattern ideas and I'm finishing them for her, so now I have 2 down.
So, this is some of what I have been doing since being gone from the blog and it's great to be back.
