x marks the dot mystery quilt

Mq polka dots

Here is my version of the X-marks the dot mystery quilt that I did on Facebook.  I'm finally getting into my sewing room and it sure feels good.

You can see we still have snow and the temps got down to -17 in town, but we didn't have it as cold up here on the ridge.

How about you all, anyone warming up yet?

stone fence

Stone fence1

Stone fence2

On Valentines day this year on our way to eat we passed this stone fence and right away I thought of TexWisGirl's meme.  I haven't been doing a lot of memes lately but thought I'd join today.

old fashioned mini applesauce cake donuts

Whole wheat mini donuts

Old Fashioned Mini Applesauce Cake Donuts

1 cup flour
1/2 cup sugar
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 cup milk
1/3 cup buttermilk
1/4 cup applesauce
2 Tbsp oil
1/2 tsp vanilla
1 egg white, lightly beaten

Preheat oven to 400°F. Spray your mini donut pan with oil or coat with butter and set aside.

In a small bowl, thoroughly combine flour, sugar, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.

In a large bowl, whisk together milk, buttermilk, applesauce, oil, and vanilla.

Fold flour mixture into wet ingredients and stir just until moistened; fold in egg white.

Add 1/2 Tbsp batter per mold, leaving the center peg showing above the batter.

Bake 10 minutes or until dough springs back when touched with your finger.

Remove from oven and cool for 2 minutes, then loosen donuts. While still warm, dip donuts in sugar, powdered sugar, or a mixture of cinnamon and sugar, coating well. Or cover with a glaze of 1/2 cup powdered sugar and 2 tsp milk.

Recipe from Mary Janes Farm magazine.

eta: I totally forgot to add sugar to this recipe and I used my whole wheat pastry flour.

church in plain

Plain Church

Church steeple

Church bell

On valentines day Mr and I went out for dinner, and instead of driving straight there we decided to take the back roads to get to the restaurant, and came upon this church going through one of the towns along the way.

tall red barn

Red barn2

This barn can be found quite a ways south of us on a ridge in Southwest Wisconsin.  I've seen a few other barns this shape and this one like the others has seen better days.
I thought I would join Amy of Rose Street Reflections for Barn Collective.

a neat sight to see

This is my view every morning, but when I looked out this morning I spied something that is not usually there.

Can you see it?

The view

It was a deer bedded down.

Bedding deer

We figure that deer bed down amongst the pines all the time we just have never seen it until now.

What a sight to wake up to.
