I found this idea on Pinterest. I had made the candles back in September and this is one use for them. I hung these in the bathroom. Mr made the barn wood for the candles. Mr had acquired the barn wood from an ex-Amish man who had taken a barn down on his property.
I put the tree up this weekend and I have some decorating ideas running through my head. I can't wait to get started on them.
Heading out of the Black hills we drove through the smallest community I think I have ever been in.
I loved this spot.
I totally understand now why they are called the Black Hills. Not so much in this shot but the hills do look black from a distance.
I hope all who celebrated Thanksgiving had a wonderful one, Mr and I did.

It was open season of deer hunting with a gun this past weekend and Mr got one, so last night while it was cold and snowing we canned the deer meat instead of making sausage with the deer that Mr had gotten. Can't wait to try it. It feels so good to fill our pantry, it's not much but it helps.
Time to plow the driveway. The UPS man had to take a couple runs to get up and around the barn yesterday when he made a delivery. The FedEx guy just left his delivery hanging on the mailbox.

Enjoying my second cup of coffee while Mr is plowing the drive this morning. I know it's a job to plow snow but I think Mr has a bit of fun doing it.
My Quilt Guild meeting that was to be last night was cancelled due to the snow storm. I'm not sure if they are going to reschedule or not. I'll just hang on to the ornament that I was going to bring, maybe they'll have an exchange next year when the meetings start up again.

On our hike through the Black Hills we came upon this site, the site of the 1970 National Christmas tree. It was a neat surprise to see.

Decisions, decisions. Now I have to pick one for the homemade ornament exchange that is being held at the local Quilt Guild Christmas party.

It was time for another trip to the American Girl Place in Chicago with a couple of granddaughters and their moms. We arrived a bit early before they opened up and the girls were checking out the displays in the windows.
We really had a lot of fun, and on the way down the girls asked me why I didn't bring my doll. I thought of it halfway to Illinois but by then it was too late to even turn around to get it. Jim had given Julie to me a few years ago for Christmas.
Daughter E had to head back home so the girls, my daughter-in-law A and I walked around Chicago for a bit before taking the train back home.
The girls had a lot of fun, it was their day. But I also had a lot of fun as well.
It's been awhile since I've posted about our trip west.
We woke up to a beautiful morning in the Black Hills, so we took a 3 mile walk through the hills.
We crossed over quite a few rivers that flowed through the hills, prefect for fly fishing.
I guess we'll just have to go back :)
