we took a walk awhile back

I totally forgot to post about this.  I seem to have a few more posts that I could do, but they'll have to wait for another day.

Jim and I walked the river about 1 1/2 months ago.  This beaver house looked pretty big.  I guess because it was still pretty early in the year yet for the grass to be tall.

We saw some Canada Geese on our walk.

Then Jim spied some carp where the river made a pool area.  In the next sequence of pictures you can see them..kind of...sort of...coming out of the water.  The carp were just rolling around together.  It's really a neat thing to see in person.  Pictures just don't do it justice.

Turning to leave we saw a beaver path, leading from the water to this tree.

Man, can those beavers do some work.

One of the many berries Cassidy had eaten.  Halfway through she tells me "Grandma, I'm sick of strawberries".  Jared here never left Grandpas side.

This one never quite did fill her basket...Tho we all helped fill it, only to have her spill it later.  It was nice being the grandparent for that.

What a fun morning.

happy fathers day

I would dearly love to wish my wonderful husband a Happy Fathers Day!

Also a Happy Fathers Day to my father.

Taking in the view

What Makes a Dad
God took the strength of a mountain,
The majesty of a tree,
The warmth of a summer sun,
The calm of a quiet sea,
The generous soul of nature,
The comforting arm of night,
The wisdom of the ages,
The power of the eagle's flight,
The joy of a morning in spring,
The faith of a mustard seed,
The patience of eternity,
The depth of a family need,
Then God combined these qualities,
When there was nothing more to add,
He knew His masterpiece was complete,
And so, He called it ... Dad

it's jam time

Don't you just love this time of year, when the strawberries are in season?  We didn't pick these, we bought them from a stand on the side of the road in Wisconsin.  They were just picked and delivered about 5 minutes prior to our stopping to buy them.  Talk about fresh hand picked strawberries.  We didn't get enough from our garden yet to be able to make jam.  We've had strawberry shortcake a few times...YUM!!

Strawberries

I was happy that I had put dinner in the crock pot before I went to work this morning.  That is a record for me this week, to have dinner made and ready for when I got home from work.  After dinner and clean up, I was able to make 4 batches of jam.  Our youngest Lauren helped me make the jam so I have to give her credit.  She was a HUGE help.  In all, the 4 batches gave me 16 (1-1/2 cup) jars filled, to put in my freezer tomorrow.  I know that these are not going to last long.  I think I need to go pick some at the strawberry farm and make some more.

Strawberry jam

Now that is done I can't wait to have some tomorrow.

It's finally not raining here after having rain for quite a few days.  One good thing is that everything is very green right now and our gardens are doing great.

i think it was five

Miles that is...I'm pretty sure it was 5 miles we hiked yesterday.  But, once we got halfway there really was no turning back.  We had to finish to get back to the trail head.

We spied a couple of things along the way.

Two birds

Jim kept his eye out for snakes and sure enough he spied one.  It was a garter snake and it slithered away before I could get a better picture.

Garter snake

Funny how snakes really don't bother or scare me.

How about you, do they scare you?

the big catch

Jim went fishing a couple of weeks ago with two of our sons and a grandson and his brother.  Here are a few shots from that day.

Our grandson holding (or at least trying to hold) his catch.

Holding his catch

Such a big grin after that big catch.

Starting to get tired.

  Watching things

Eventually he just tuckered out.

Just another beautiful day on the water.

when it's too hot...head to the lake to walk

So that's what we did last night.  We walked along the lake shore path.  I think it was at least 15 degrees cooler and no mosquitoes.

On another walk I spied a wild iris growing.  This I haven't ever seen before.

Stop and take the time to see if you can see something new you have never seen before.  It always amazes me when I see something new.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.
