On Sunday we went canoeing down the river. What a nice relaxing time that was. Here's a bit of what we saw along the way.
A killdeer hunting for food along the river bank.
At one point along the way we had to portage around a blockage in the river.
Here we had to bank the boat and get out.
After scouting the best way to get around, Jim has to pull the canoe to the other side of the blockage.
That didn't stop us and away we went.
Then Jim spied a Sandhill Crane.
But wait, there are two of them. Or are there only two?
Nope, after zooming in I saw three Sandhill Cranes, one being a baby.
They slowly walked away from us. I'm thinking if they didn't have their baby there they would have flown away, but their baby was too small to fly yet so they had to walk away ever so slowly.
We saw a lot of carp spawning along the sides of the river.
This pool area had a lot of carp, they were too fast to get a good picture of them coming out of the water.
And these pretty flowers blooming in this area.
Lots more to see along the way. The work of some beavers. I think they have abandoned this tree, must have been too big for them.
I'm not sure what kind of bird this one is, I've never seen it before. It almost looks kind of like a Kingfisher.
You can see how high the river has been by the debris left.
A few times we had to go through some really narrow areas like this one below.
We came upon another neat find. A few families of Canada Geese.
Oops, they saw us and hurried up out of the water to hide.
Heading to the canoe launch where we would get out someone was fishing.
Again, I almost didn't take my camera, only this time it was because I worried about the canoe tipping over and in the river me and my camera would go.
But, we didn't and I'm glad I brought it. I hope you enjoyed the canoe trip with us.
