go green and my strawberry & vintage apron collections

I have done some redecorating in the house.  You know how I love aprons and I have some vintage aprons tucked away in my China cabinet drawer just waiting to come out of hiding.  As I was taking my Christmas decorations down I decided I wasn't going to put the things I had back up but decided to do something different.  I have quite a few vintage aprons and so I hung four of them on my shelf that is in my hallway by the kitchen.  I also decided to display some of the little pitchers I have instead of hiding them in the China cabinet too.

Vintage aprons

I had a hard time deciding which ones to put out so I will change the aprons once in awhile so they don't all hide in the drawer.  I also put out all the strawberry items that I have.  The jar was my Grandma M's and the scoop that she used is still in the jar.

I did some sewing yesterday...YEAH!!!  It felt really good even tho my sewing room is a total disaster.  I enjoyed the afternoon sewing.  Tonight is my ASG meeting and this months challenge is "Go Green".  We had to make a bag that we would bring to the grocery store and use to bring our groceries home in.  The only stipulation was we had to use things from our stash.  What I didn't have I made my own.  I bought some fabric last year to make the duffel bags for the Allendale kids but didn't use these two fabrics.  I didn't have any webbing for the straps so I made my own straps.

Go green

I put a pocket on the front for carrying those magazines or cards that you don't want to get wrinkled or ripped up on the way home.

Green bag pocket

To make the bottom a bit more sturdy I used some heavy weight double sided stiff fusible interfacing that I just knew someday I would use.  I put the contrasting fabric over it and serged the edges.

Now, the colors are not your typical colors that you would find these bags are made out of.  But, who knows maybe if I do use it to carry my groceries home in I might be starting some new trend.

hump day

Isn't that what they call Wednesday, the middle of the week?  I'm off today from Jury Duty.  I didn't get picked for a trial so today I'm off and I have to call tonight to see if I have to report on Thursday.  What I went through yesterday was pretty interesting.  There were 17 of us interviewed by the Judge and only 8 were picked for a 5 day trial.  I'm not sure if not being picked was good or bad.  One woman I was talking to said she has been called to serve 7 times and has never been picked yet to serve on a Jury.

My trip on the train was also rather interesting, all the business people heading to work in the city.  When you get off the train if you don't get your feet moving you'll just get carried along and hope and pray your going in the right direction.  I took a cab to the Federal Building as I didn't know how long it would take me to walk there, but on my way back I did walk.  I stopped in a book store and bought a couple of Knitting books and read one on the train going home.  I grabbed a sandwich for lunch seeing it was 12:30 going on 1:00 p.m. and I hadn't had any lunch yet and the last time I had eaten anything was 5:15 a.m.  I was wishing I had my camera with me, so much to see in the big city.

Yarn club was last night and I was glad to have been able to make it.  I'm working on a neck cozy right now.

We had company Monday night, Drew and Jordan.  Both these boys are in the Army.  Jordan is here for a short visit on leave and Drew was injured in Iraq and lives near us and will be getting out of the Army in the Spring.  My throat choked up when I heard both these boys say how they loved coming to our home and hanging out with our boys.  These boys and our boys went back and forth to each others houses when they were growing up.

Two brothers

So, of course I had to have them over for dinner along with Phil and Clare who wanted to visit with them.  I made a super dessert.  I found the recipe over at Kelli's, called Buckeye Brownies.  If you scroll down her post you will find the recipe.  I was going to make them for Christmas Eve but decided to make them at a later time so I made them for dessert.

I've must be off...I have some sewing to do for my ASG challenge for the month of January.

You all have a scrumpdilly of a day.

if that is even a word :)

a sunday morning walk along the river

Sunday morning Jim and I took Sadie down to the river for an icy winter walk.  I got a tip from Anne about Yaktrax Walkers to put on your shoes for easy walking in the winter.  These are great and do work well.  Jim had a bit of a harder time walking then I did on the ice as he didn't have any on.  A trip to Gander Mountain came up with a pair for him.

With the rain and warm weather that melted all our snow the river was pretty flooded.  But, you could tell that it is starting to recede.

Icy walk

The beaver house looks pretty big with the water level down and the cattails gone.

You can see here where the river had first froze.

This bottom picture you can see the trees under the top ice layer, also the tree reflection in the ice and water.

Sadie loves to run when we are out for a walk, she'll run between Jim and I and at full tilt too.

Ears back

There are just so many interesting things to see outside, all you have to do is just look around and you'll find it.

knitting and some wonderful news

I finally finished that scarf I was making on the way to Minnesota.  I wear it all the time.  I can't believe how warm it is.

For the next 2 weeks starting tomorrow I have Jury duty....but, I called to check in today after Church and I don't have to report tomorrow.  I have to call again Monday after 5:00 p.m. to see if I have to report on Tuesday.  I guess I have to do this everyday but it beats traveling down every morning only to be told to go home, that I wouldn't like.

When we were visiting our daughter Carri and her family we got some news from our son Dan.  He decided to get engaged over New Years.  So in June there will be another wedding in our family.  We'll have to travel to Michigan for his wedding.  This is happy happy news.
