lots of rain today

Today it has rained all morning, and pretty hard too.  Our yard is just shy of an acre, and in the north part of our yard we have a natural swale.  We have never filled it in to level off our property.  So when it rains hard we have a river going through part of our yard, and our neighbors yard across the street.  If you look in the top picture, our neighbor built a bridge and the water flows underneath it.  When the ground is dry it looks kind of funny to see this bridge, but when there is water, it looks pretty neat.  We don't  mind the river swale.  Usually when the rain has stopped it's not too long and the water is all gone.  So I had to hurry outside in the rain to get these pictures just in case it started to go down.

It can get pretty bad when it rains, but DH and I think this is probably the worst we have seen.

It's raining, it's pouring

Well it's back to school after a long spring break.  Lauren had taken an extra day off from school so she had a bit more than an week off.  Did we do anything?  No...nothing out of the norm that we usually do on spring break.

Today we woke up to a thunder storm.  I was wondering how Sadie was going to do with the thunder, but it doesn't seem to bother her any.

It's Monday morning and up to the office I go today.  I also need to get back on my meal planning.  I feel lost without it right now.  I just haven't totally gotten into my routine, and it is bugging me.  Maybe today will be the day.

You all have a wonderful week.

Baby Shower

Soon to be new mom with sister Stephanie and a few nieces helping out.

Busy and fun day today.  I hosted a baby shower for my niece who is having her first baby.  I have always wanted to make a Diaper Cake.  So I checked on line and checked out a few sites that sell them.  I figured I could make one so I designed my own.  I thought after it was all put together that I should have made a tutorial of it.  Oh well...maybe next time.  Everything is usable for a baby except the ribbon.

I also made a corsage.  She is having a Girl so I went with a Girl theme with a touch of Boy, just in case.

My living room full of ladies of all ages.  I didn't take a picture of my kitchen and hallway which was full of ladies too.

Mom and daughter

Three of Liz's sisters...Kim, Emily and Wendy.

More pictures of some Great Nieces.  I missed two of Stephanie's girls.  I thought I got pictures of them all.

Here is Jim's sister Colleen and her beautiful daughter Josie.  She is the sweetest little lady.

Too busy...

to do the Show and Tell this week.  I just never found the time to put anything together.

This week has been catch up and cleaning the house.  Plus with having a puppy in the house I am finding out, IS A LOT OF WORK.  I am constantly moving to see what she is getting into, or taking her out to do her duty.  Hey....maybe I'll loose a few pounds.  Wouldn't that be great.  We are trying to train Sadie, so off to puppy class we went last week.  We are working on some homework which she has really mastered pretty good.  We call her name and once she looks and makes eye contact with us and holds it for a few seconds, we say "Yes" and then give her a treat.  She has mastered it so well that she will follow us around if she thinks we might have some treats and will keep eye contact with us.  I don't think that is how it is supposed to work.  So we have to ignore her until she does something else.   This usually happens in the house. (lol)

One thing that is really annoying is that she'll jump up on us.  The trainer told us to turn our back to her and ignore her.  Well....that is all good, but what happens when she nips you in the rear end?  Which she has and does, to me anyway.  Yikes, that hurts.  Still with all that goes with a puppy I am really happy to have her and wouldn't trade her for the world.

Here Jim is working with Sadie on what I was talking about.

Today I followed Sue's lead that she usually does on Fridays and did a recipe share.  I haven't posted any recipes lately so I thought that today would be a good day.

Well I am off to start my day.

You all have a great day.

A couple of recipes to share...

Three Cheese Casserole

1 lb ground beef, browned

2 (8-oz) cans tomato sauce

1 tsp. sugar

3/4 tsp. salt

1/4 tsp. garlic salt

1/4 tsp. pepper

4 c. noodles cooked (2/3 of 12 oz. box)

1 c. cottage cheese

1 (8 oz.) cream cheese, softened

1/4 c. sour cream

1/4 c. green pepper, chopped

1/4 c. Parmesan cheese

Add sauce, sugar, salts and pepper to ground beef.  In a small bowl combine cottage cheese, cream cheese, sour cream and green pepper.  Grease 7 X 11-inch baking dish, layer half noodles, half meat mixture and cover with cheese mixture.  Repeat noodles and meat.  Top with Parmesan cheese.

Bake at 350° for 30 minutes.

Chicken Cordon Bleu

6 boneless, skinless chicken breasts, halved

1 (4-oz) pkg ham thinly sliced

3/4 c. Swiss cheese, shredded

3 c. cornflakes, crushed

1/2 tsp. paprika

1/2 tsp. pepper

1/2 tsp. parsley

Pound chicken between waxed paper to 1/4 inch thick, place slice of ham and swiss cheese on each; roll up, secure with toothpick.  Dip chicken in milk; dip in flakes mixed with spices.  Bake at 350° for 1 hour or until done in 9 X 13 pan.

Over at the American Girl Place for brunch, on the table were little boxes with slips of paper in them.  On each slip of paper was a question.  I guess this box is used for conversation at your table.  This was one question that we pulled out of the box.

I hope you all have a wonderful day today.

birthday, birthday...

I am sure you will be seeing a picture of these two over at their moms blogs.  These two shared a birthday party last night.  Jim and I were a bit late.  I went to Sadie's first puppy class...and boy do we have a lot to learn, and Jim had a baptism to do.  One good thing on the puppy class, we are not totally doing everything wrong.

I haven't done any sewing in it seems like a long time.  So that is my goal today, really start in on the smocking I have started but don't have any time to do.  I actually have to get it done by the first Thursday in May, because that is when I am doing a demo at my ASG meeting.  Ugh...I am not sure what possessed me to volunteer for that.  I think I am going to have nightmares on this one.

Man, yesterday I had a fine at the Library.  I am such a knuckle head when it comes to returning books.  Why do I procrastinate when I know that they are due?  Did a lot of running around again yesterday.  Seems like I am on the go a lot lately.

Well off I go to start my wonderful day.

You all have a great day.

good morning...

I hope everyone is recuperating from their weekends.  I slept in again this morning.  I was doing my usual....waking up in the middle of the night and staying up for a couple of hours.  Man do I hate that.  Especially when I have a few things to do today my day starts out later.

Yesterday was a really busy day up in the office.  I worked all morning, then after lunch I went and did errands.  So my day was pretty full.  Tonight is a birthday party for 2 grand daughters, and before that I am taking Sadie to Puppy classes.  It will have to be an early and easy supper tonight.

This is a Camellia shrub.  Down in Williamsburg Va, we posed for a picture in front of this shrub.  I guess it is the "Famous Camellia Shrub" that everyone who visits takes a picture in front of.  Us included.  Unfortunately I took the picture on video mode and can't figure out how to post it.

You all have a great day.
