My "baby" is 16 today.  When did you grow up?

hats galore!

It was a fun weekend.  We had company and went to a birthday party. 

Our granddaughter turned 9 and for her party she wanted a theme and she picked a "Hat" theme.  So everyone who went to the party wore a hat.  Kiirsti's hat was made out of a an old lamp shade and decorated.

Party goers of all ages got in the spirit of the party theme and wore a hat.

More party hats...some were hand made, some were old and some not so old.

The weekend is over and Monday is here.  We are supposed to be getting some rain this week so I need to get out in my garden today and clean it up.  I have been so behind in doing that this spring.  The river has been pretty high again and with more rain coming this week I hate to see what that is going to do. 

I'm off to get my day going, so you all have a wonderful day today.

a birthday party

Since Monday is Jim's birthday I had his party last night.  I had to share these pictures before I forgot and never posted them.

I'm not sure what this was all about but girls tend to get silly sometimes.

the end of 2008

Dan turned 21 on the 29th.  Such a milestone in a young persons life isn't it?

 

Dan's birthday was a busy day for him at work.  I wondered if he was even going to make it to celebrate his birthday at all and I was too busy to even think about making a cake so I went to the bakery to get one.

   

2008 was an okay year for work for us but 2009 appears to be slowing down a bit.  So we'll just have to pray that all goes well.  I know there are some that have already felt the impact of what's about to come and my thoughts and prayers are with you.

I love blogging and will continue to blog in 2009.  There may be a few changes and I just might do a giveaway this year.  I have also met some really wonderful people through blogging, one who I actually got to meet in person.  That I think was one of the most exciting things to happen for me this past year.  The most exciting thing for me to happen was celebrating 30 years with my wonderful husband who I love very much. 

We are off later this afternoon to visit our daughter Carri and her family in Minnesota.  We should be getting there before the New Year rings in.   I've got my knitting bag packed and I'm ready for the car ride.  We won't be back until late Saturday.

I hope and pray that each and everyone of you has a safe and wonderful time welcoming in the New Year.

she's two

I seem to recall seeing candles like that on a cake before (lol).  Last night was Hannah's birthday party and she got so excited when she realized that it was "her" birthday. 

 

Elaine made these cute cupcake cones.  I have always wanted to make them when my kids were small and never did.  I'm not really sure why either.  They looked too pretty to eat.

I can't believe that it's Wednesday already.  The weeks are just flying by.  Thanksgiving is almost here and I haven't really thought much about my menu.  I better get moving on that.  I did go Christmas shopping yesterday and I knocked a lot off my list.  I don't feel too rushed this year, more relaxed I guess.  I'll have the ones I need to mail out done by the end of the week and possibly in the mail by Monday.  That will be the first.  For the most part I know what I'm getting so that is making shopping so much easier.

I am too excited.  Next week I'm going with my SIL and I think my MIL, to a HUGE Arts and Crafts Fair and I can't wait.  I have been tossing change in my piggy bank for the last year and I haven't touched it yet.  Next week I'm going to cash it in and I can't wait to see how much money I can spend.  I'll let you know how it was next week.

Well I'm off to hunt for some fire wood ads.  We don't have access to wood that we can just go and chop down so we have to buy from someone.

Birthday Dinner and Birthday Cake

Last night Jim and I took out Lauren and Erin for their Birthday Dinners.  We missed Erin's birthday as we were heading down south to see Jake.  The girls picked Chili's as the dinner spot.

Then we went back home to have some cake.

I couldn't believe it I had only 7 candles in the house.  This mom is slipping.

We are getting company for the family reunion.  Carri and her family and Jason and his family are coming.  So it will be pretty busy in our house this weekend.  I do have a couple of posts that I will pre-post if it will work for me.  It has given me trouble in the past since TypePad has changed.

I have been baking Bread Machine Rolls for the reunion.  Lots of them.  I only need to make 5 batches of rolls and in a batch I can get 12-18 rolls, and depending how long I let them rise for depends on the size.  I need BBQ size buns.  So I borrowed my sisters machine and along with mine I can put 2 batches going at a time.  For some reason the dough was so sticky in both machines.  I could hardly get it out off my hands to the pan.  They turned out great still but I kept those ones for home.  Maybe it was the humidity.
