my sister arrived

Would you believe that yesterday was the first time we got off the island?  We headed to Houston to pick up my sister who flew down here to spend a few days with us on the island.

It was late when she got off the plane so we headed to a really good BBQ place to get something to eat.  We met two of the daughters (the other one was working) and our son and his wife already were eating dinner, so it was just the five of us.

The reviews on this place said they had a really good pecan pie.  Ya know what?  They did :)

It's going to be busy here for the next few days, so it might be a bit quiet here at daily yarns.

I finally took some shots of these flowers growing down by the beach.  I thought I'd bring some color to those who are not seeing any right now.

It's been very windy and rainy here lately, and this is what Sadie likes to do when she can't go out and about.

We won't let her in the beach house as she just shed a winters worth of dog hair in about a week.  I wasn't about to spend my whole time down here sweeping up after her.  Don't feel sorry for her, she may LOOK uncomfortable, but she's quite content where she lays.

We had to get our van fixed as we had a leak in the heater hose, so our daughters dropped us off at the seawall on their way back to Houston.  We had a few hours to kill so we sat on some rocks and watched the waves, I ended up checking the people out as well.

The waves coming in were sandy.

We headed out to do some more shelling with our son, dil and the grandkids, and some people where we went were paragliding.

This guy sailed over me when he realized that I was taking his pictures. He's the owner of TX Flysports in League City Texas, a really nice guy who Jim and I ended up talking to.

So many fun things we've seen on this trip.

and here i thought they weren't around

I've been wanting to see some pelicans while down here and tho I've only seen a few here and there, I just didn't think that there were too many around here. 

Well, I was wrong.

We were shelling in a spot that had oodles of them.  I just wish I had my zoom lens with me, because every time I got closer to them they flew a little bit farther away from me.

Oh, I forgot to let you know what was in the rock picture, it was a pair of sunglasses, just click on the photo to get a better look.

a rainy day

When we first got to Galveston I had to go to Starbucks to get the internet.  Thanks to my wonderful hubby and an internet company, I'm able to get the internet for the whole month that we're down here.

Yesterday was a rainy day, surprisingly warm, but rainy.

So what did I do?  I did the huge pile of laundry that has been waiting for me.

What is a girl to do?  Who wants to do laundry when you can spend time with family like this?

For the record, granddaughter Olisa has the biggest fish so far, beating her grandpa and her dad.

Jim went fishing and shelling this morning and had a pleasant surprise in his shelling bag.

Flipped over he tried to walk away to safety.  Such a beautiful home he lives in.

So many neat surprises we have found everyday.

It's been just beautiful down here in Texas so far that I can't complain when the sun isn't out and the weather is a bit cooler.

I have to say the shelling in this particular spot of the beach isn't as good as the shelling down on Sanibel Island.  But we've managed to find some pretty good ones...

and it sure doesn't stop us from looking.
