Before I even start this post I want to say Thank You to you all who said a little prayer for my mom. I also appreciated each and every comment.
As soon as the snow stopped I was able to head out in the morning. I was gone a week and in that time my mom did well. My mom did in fact have a stroke and her heart is not good. But, by the time I got to the hospital, my mom had recovered the feeling back in her arm and left side, also her speech was back to normal. I stayed the week helping them and helping them figure things out. Life around here is going to change, my parents are most likely going to move in with us here at Gentle Hearth Farm. They're not to the point of going to a nursing home, but living with us I can keep an eye on them. If we still lived in Illinois there would be no problem with them living where they are living, I could check on them everyday, but life changes.
With all that has gone down, I've thought more and more of my grandma's quilt. It has a fray in one of the fabrics and I have no idea how to repair it. I don't want to take it apart if I don't have to. Any ideas as to how to repair it would be greatly appreciated.
The power of prayer is unbelievable, and my mom was so lucky, even the doctor was amazed and happy how she recovered from the stroke. He called it a heart related stroke, and with her heart jumping around like it does, is the reason why the stroke occurred.
So come fall, life here will be changed.
Life just never stays the same does it?

i'm glad your mom has recovered so well and so quickly. but i am sorry they will have to leave their home and come live with you - it will be a change for them and you, no doubt. but i am so glad you and jim have the capability and willingness for this next phase to occur, too.

I'm glad your mom is doing so well - it's wonderful that she got her speech back and the feeling in her side. Your grandma's quilt looks very similar to one I have from my grandma. I'm not sure how to repair it. The fray adds a certain authenticity - maybe there is something to keep it from getting worse (?)

So glad to hear that your mom is doing well. The Richland County clean air and wondrous views will help make the move a little easier for them I'm sure.

Life is constantly changing, sometimes for the good and sometimes not so good. But, everything happens for a reason and the power of prayer can get us through anything. I'm so happy your Mom recovered so quickly. I'll say a prayer for your family for the upcoming changes that are about to take place. And, sorry, I'm just learning how to quilt so I can't help you there.

So glad that your mom is doing so well. My mom did had a slight stroke too, Scared us to death, but she recovered. As for the quilt, can you use some sort of iron-on fusible interfacing to iron it into place? Or just press it into place, leaving the frayed edges--adds character. My parents are gone and we just lost Gerald's mom, so we have only his dad left who lives about an hour away and not doing too well. We soon find ourselves their caretakers and it is not always easy, but I know that are the sort of daughter who handle her parents' care with love and grace.

Oh Judy, I am so pleased your mum came through this well. My biggest fear is losing my parents, I can't even give it a thought as it makes me feel sick!!
Your grandmas quilt is divine, such pretty colours. Could you maybe applique a strip over the one that has the fray? Tack the fray down first then applique.

I'm glad to hear that your mom is doing better Judy. It's SO hard to watch our parents age -- they're lucky they have you to help them. Sadly, life does change.

Bless your heart Judy. Life is like riding a roller coaster. Family is forever.
Love your sons sense of humor ~:)
I will keep all of you in my prayers.

No, it never does stay the same. I figure that before we know it, we'll be moving in with the kids ourselves. Now that gives one pause.
Glad that your mom recovered so quickly and well from the stroke. Glad that your parents have you to keep an eye on them. Much, much better than having to go to outside care providers.
Your grandmother's quilt is amazing! I might be tempted (perhaps foolishly) to lift that piece out and replace it. Otherwise, I'd just repair it with a tiny little blue thread stitch in place. What beautiful fabrics your grandmother chose.

Oh, Judy, you have sure had a lot happening in your life I see. I am so glad your mom recovered so quickly. WE are the old ones in our family now...neither Roger nor I have a parent left. I was with Sarah for a week...right now things seem to have settled down for her. I am hoping and praying that it lasts for a while.

I'm glad your mother is doing better. I'll continue to send out good thoughts and prayers for all of you. I had a quilt my great grandmother made that needed repairs and I'm not sure what I did with it. Probably the attic. It was so beautiful. Your grandmothers is lovely too.

My mom had a stroke last February. She is doing well despite partial esophageal dysphagia and not being able to eat most solid foods. They don't really know what caused her stroke though they suspect uncontrolled high spikes in her blood pressure (different than high blood pressure). She's been on meds for that and her thyroid since the stroke and hasn't had another so they are confident it was an isolated incident. Her speech has returned to normal though it can revert if she's fatigued. In catching up with your blog today, I'm glad to see you're mom has continued to improve! You're all in my thoughts and prayers!

Put a patch on it. Isn't it what patchwork is about?
