I'm so excited, my Christmas/Easter cactus is starting to bud. I never know what to call my cactus, because the few times it has ever bloomed, which for some reason is NOT very often, it has bloomed around Easter time. I think only one time has it bloomed at Christmas.
This year it looks like I'm going to have much of my cactus in bloom...YEAH!!!! I think the trick this year was that our home was cooler, and I had closed the drapes so that they were just slightly open so that my african violet would get some sun while we were gone to Texas. My cactus was in a darker cooler place for a month.
And, my african violet was in full bloom when I left, I'm just happy it wasn't dead when we got back home after being gone a month. I actually have a watering system for this plant that works great, and as you can see there is one flower starting to bloom again.
Seems like a lot is starting to bud, bloom and blossom around here. I've been thinking a lot lately about something I had heard from one of the speakers at the Women of Faith event I had gone to last fall.
The speaker talked about the......Formula for Contentment
Contentment
What you...
Think
Believe
Do
I've been thinking about an old friend that I had lost track of, I knew the general area where she was living, and believe it or not she lives not that far from me.
I had thought about getting in touch with her again after so many years, but I didn't know or believe if she'd want to hear from me.
So, I did something and I called her, which is the do part.
It must have been God's will because I found her name and number when I googled her and when I got a hold of her we talked for a long time. We caught up with each others lives (as much as we could) and in some ways it was like we never missed a day.
This formula can really be applied to anything that happens in our life.
Lots of things budding around here, flowers and old friendships.

really great that you dared to contact her and probably made her day (as well as yours). :)
you reminded me of my mom. she loved christmas cactus as well as african violets. had several plants of each for as long as i knew her. :)

Isn't it nice to have indoor color? My Christmas Cactus didn't bloom this year. I moved it from the bedroom to the kitchen, from an east window to a west window and I guess it prefers morning to afternoon. I am not a very good plant mom these days. Just too much else to do, but isn't it a celebration when our African Violet blooms?

How neat that you were able to get in touch with your old friend and renew your friendship! :)
My African violets bloom almost constantly in their north-facing window. My poor Christmas cactus, on the other hand, hasn't bloomed in years. I really need to move it out of it's south-facing window! LOL!!

I've never had much luck with flowering house plants . Your cactus looks amazing, I think you may have the knack. I like the way you applied the buds to old friendships. Over the last couple of years I've gotten back in touch with a couple friends I hadn't spoken with in many years, and it's amazing how easily we were able to pick right back up. There's something really special about these friendships, and it must have felt so good to get in touch with your friend!

Beautiful plants :) My daffodils and my tulips are blooming now, so pretty :)
And being in Arizona, we have a lot of blooming cacti, some are stunning.
Great to hear about your friend, it's wonderful that you were able to get in touch with her again and reconnect.
