The other night Jim and I went visiting where we were served baking powder biscuits. I have to say that these were...the...best...baking powder biscuits I have ever had. I was pumped when she gave me the recipe. So the other night Jim helped me make a batch. I couldn't just stop at eating only one tho.
I had to have one with sugar cinnamon sprinkled on top.
And, one with homemade strawberry jam slathered on it.
Baking Powder Biscuits
6 cups Four (I used Lily White)
1 1/2 cups Sugar (we cut it back to 1 cup)
9 tsp Baking Powder
1/2 tsp Baking Soda
2 tsp Salt
3 sticks Butter
2 cups Butter Milk
2 Eggs
1 tsp Vanilla
Mix together like pie crust the first 5 ingredients. Beat eggs, butter milk and vanilla. Roll out and cut with a biscuit cutter. Bake @ 400° 12-14 minutes.
There has been a lot happening around here the past few days. Our son Jake got word that he is being called back up for service in the Army. He's going to be deployed again. That was a total shock to us all. Jake and Jennie just moved back here and were just starting to get settle into life outside the military. This will be his 3rd deployment. So after getting the news on Veterans Day it's finally starting to sink in that it's really happening.
I have a few knitting projects going at the moment. I started this one the other night. (Em if you want a different color blue as the accent color just let me know)
Work has been going great...I haven't messed things up yet anyway :) I'll be officially a regular employee and not a trainee starting next week. Yeah!!!!
I had to get motoring to work yesterday morning so I didn't have time to get a picture of the heavy frost we had. I'm getting kind of excited for that first snowfall of the year. I know I won't be so excited about snow by the time the end of winter comes. I'll be ready for spring again. But isn't that the great part of living in a 4 season area. When you get tired of one season the next one is just around the corner.
I was in JoAnn's the other day getting some fleece to line the hat I made for our grandson last year and two ladies at the check-out were already complaining about the snow...and it hasn't even snowed yet. I wanted to ask them "Why do you live in this area if you hate snow so much?"
Who's excited to see that first snowfall like I am?

Oh I feel for Jake and Jenny...may God be with him as he is deployed yet again.

Prayers are being said for Jake so that he has a safe deployment and return home. Thanks for serving Jake. :)
I don't get people either that gripe about snow, but live where it happens. Move. I don't like driving in it but I love watching it and taking a few slides down a hill now and then. :)

The biscuits look yummy except I'll have to skip the cinnamon. My mother was brought up in the South. She used to make biscuits from scratch.

God bless your son! A 3rd deployment - that is a lot of service for our country. He will be in our prayers. Ahh - those baking powder biscuits look great. I need to try them - haven't made biscuits in a long time. My mom always used to make them and they were my favorite!

Me Me Me!!! I always love to see the snow. I'm definitely a 4 season person -- I could never be a snowbird. Good luck to your son! I don't understand the way they do deployments, but I guess it's not for me to understand -- just to be grateful for those who go. Thank your son for us. And thank YOU for that yummy looking recipe!

I am almost in the mood for snow. Soon! :)
Congratulations on becoming a regular employee! Good work!
